Zhang
Guoyong was born in Shanghai. He became a teacher in Shanghai Musical Conservatory
immediately after his graduation in the same conservatory with a major of
conducting. During his career, he has held many concerts with some great
Chinese and foreign musicians and singers. He also presented operas 'Rigoletto','Don
Pasquale' and ballets 'Swan Lake','Giselle' and 'Don Quixote'. In 1998,
he conducted the Russian Ballet of Kremlin 'inThe Nutcracker' and won acclaim
among artists.
In
1993, Zhang Guoyong was sent by Chinese government to Tchaikovsky Conservatory
of Music to promote his musical studies with Professor Roshjestvensky.
He made recordings of those concerts that collaborated with Russian
National Symphony Orchestra and Russian Philharmonic Orchestra. He won his
Doctorate degree in 1997 and revealed his musical talent in the graduation
concert. When interviewed by the musical critics and reporters, Professor
Roshjestvensky said, 'I gave him the highest score in the history of the
Conductor Department of our Conservatory, which will facilitate him to be
a conductor in the orchestras in the world.'
In recent years, he has been invited many times to USA, Korea, Russia, Hong Kong, Macaw and Taiwan for
tours and performances.
He is now working as a professor in Department of Composing and Conducting in Shanghai Academy of Music, permanent conductor in Shanghai Symphony Orchestra and musical director and chief conductor in Zhejiang Symphony Orchestra.
